Extended Community • Financial Contributions • Residents • Retreats • Our Week Participate in the "extended community." A number of individuals participate in the life of St. Francis House in different ways. Some come to help with the work. Others come regularly to every other Friday night meeting for clarification of thought. We are exploring the possibility of assisting people who want to live a Gospel life in their own communities through our prayer and support and occasional visits, in a kind of "associate" relationship. Financial contributions are always welcome. One of the ways in which we are authentically Franiscan is that we beg for support. Residents are not paid salaries; rather we all contribute financially as we are able. Generous donors have contributed more than $350,000 in our first five years to purchase and renovate the buildings where we live and work, and to support our ministries. St. Franics House is a non-profit public charity, and your contributions are tax deductible. Become a Resident member of the community. After five years of work from St. Francis House as 30 Broad Street, we entered a new phase of our community life in 2004 with the opening of Victory House, next door at No. 32. We are actively seeking short and long-term residents to join us in our life and work. When we first started we thought in terms of life long commitments. Our experience shows us that is not how modern life works! An initial commitment of four months to a year is much more in keeping with how people's lives unfold nowadays. Such a commitment can of course be renewed. A short visit normally precedes application for residence. Then, after a longer trial visit, both current residents and the St. Francis House Board discern whether an applicant will be accepted for residence. A focus on the life and work of St. Francis House is the primary commitment shared by all residents. Come for a retreat or sabbatical. The Calvary Hermitage, an apartment furnished and refurbished by Calvary Church, Stonington, is available for retreats and sabbatical time. People who are looking to pursue their own vocational development are the primary users of this space. We are delighted to welcome their participation in the life of the House in ways that are helpful to them. We are also willing to host small groups for retreats and conferences as well.
Daily Morning Prayer, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. Each individual also commits to an hour a day of personal meditation or contemplative prayer. |
